Google has updated its Software Development Kit for iOS to version 1.6, bringing 64-bit support so that developers who are creating apps aimed at the A7 chip used in the latest iPads and iPhones can incorporate Google's Map service into the app if they wish. The update also includes enhanced marker opacity, and min/max zoom settings, some changes to CGFloat as appropriate, added opacity on GMSTileLayer and GMSMarker, and other improvements - along with fixing a handful of bugs.

Version 1.6 now requires model values to be set when using Core Animation on GMSMapView, and padding on GMSMapView is no longer clamped to its bounds (useful if developers are setting padding on an initially zero-sized map). Info windows and tappable regions now rotate correctly with markers, copyright information now animates when one changes the GMSMapView size or padding, and info windows are removed if their GMSMarker is removed.

Additionally, the "My Location" dot uses the last known location information when enabled, and the update also resolves an issue where retain cycles were causing memory leaks on GMSMapView and GMSPanoramaView, and two rare race conditions that were causing crashes. Both 32- and 64-bit binaries are built into the single Google Maps framework, with the correct binary being selected by Xcode based on build settings.
