A company called Beaconic
has announced the iBeacon Retail Kit, intended to make deploying Apple's iBeacon technology easier for retailers. The kit includes two or more Bluetooth 4.0 beacons and an online campaign manager. Each beacon has a two-year battery life, and a range up to 60 meters (197 feet). While iBeacon is designed for iPhones, Beaconic says it is also working on an Android app.
At retail iBeacons are used to ping nearby devices with alerts about ongoing sales or product specifications. Beaconic is promising that its platform can handle complex campaigns, such as countdown-based promotions, or incentives for connecting to Facebook. The system will also track how many people redeem offers and rewards, and include an SDK for businesses that want to go further than basic functions.
Beaconic claims to have the first iBeacon offering on the market in the Europe; the Kit is also available in the US. Pricing starts at €249, with a €100 premium for two more iBeacons. A €500-plus option gets buyers a custom setup with as many iBeacons as needed. Localized software translations are planned for France, Germany, and Spain.
