Amidst continuing expansion into nearby California towns, Apple has taken a medium-term lease on a seven-building office complex
in Sunnyvale, California. The facility, which boasts 290,000 square feet, is expected to house nearly 1,500 workers and is an expansion from the one building the company previously occupied. It plans to take over the entire office park and has filed permit applications for interior improvements.

The facility is known as Sunnyvale Crossing, and was redeveloped as a modern office complex in recent years, renovating old buildings to meet modern standards, reports the San Jose Mercury News
. The new campus will hardly be the first big push of Apple employees into Sunnyvale -- in 2012, Apple leased the whole of the Sunnyvale Research Center
park, housing 1,300 employees, and a 156,000 square-foot building in Sunnyvale Town Center
for 400 employees. In addition, the company has a lease on a two-building facility totalling 108,712 square feet off Benecia Avenue in the town that accommodates 1,200 employees.
Apple's significant expansion of engineering and support personnel in Cupertino has required the company to buy up as much of the available office space in Cupertine as is feasible, and spill over employees into other nearby communities such as Santa Clara. Apple is building its own campus in Santa Clara, which is expected to hold 1,200 workers in a new building that should open later this year.
The company is currently building a new "Campus 2" mega-facility in Cupertino that will hold some 14,000 employees, but the "spaceship" building is not expected to be complete until sometime in late 2016. Along with the many buildings in and around its hometown of Cupertino, Apple also has a campus in Austin, Texas and a growing presence in Israel, among other locations. Some of its smaller locations outside of California have come about as a result of buyouts and acquisitions of smaller companies.
