Casemaker OtterBox has announced Resurgence, a new line of battery cases, initially designed for the iPhone 5 and 5s. Each case is rated at 2,000mAh, and will automatically stop charging an iPhone once the device hits full power. OtterBox also promises that users can still do wired sync with a Resurgence equipped, and use an included headphone jack extender to hold headphone cords.

Like other OtterBox cases, the Resurgence line meets milspec drop protection standards. Black, glacier, rose, and teal models are available. Each one costs $100.

Apple needs to take a hint from all these cases and create a sport model that's Milspec rather for moisture and dropping/

JESUS H. CHRIST. Not ONE thread on iPhone cases where you don't post this exact comment.

The few thousand people who need this functionality and are willing to pay extra for it are WHY THIS PRODUCT EXISTS.

It makes no sense for Apple to build this thing to satisfy a few specialty cases perfectly served by OtterBox' offerings.

This new Otterbox case looks less bulky than the Mophie offering, but not by much. The Mophie juice pack plus on my iPhone 4 worked great, but it was too bulky and I returned it for store credit. The 5s model looks somewhat slimmer, but I already have a case on my 5s that protects my phone with an aluminum shell and gorilla glass, and I found the SOSCHARGER to be exactly the type of external battery that I need.
