Apple should sell about 101.6 million iPads in 2013, according to a new estimate by Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley. "With the impressive refresh of the 4th generation Retina iPad and launch of the iPad Mini earlier this week, we anticipate very strong holiday quarter iPad sales," says Walkley in a new investor memo.

"In fact, with Apple's decisions to price the iPad Mini at a $170 discount to similar fourth-generation iPad SKUs, and competitively priced versus lower-priced competing products from Google and other Android OEMs, we anticipate strong sales of the iPad Mini, especially as gifts during the holiday quarter. Further, we believe the iPad Mini significantly expands Apple's tablet-addressable market internationally, and should lead to strong sales throughout F2013 as international distribution increases," he added. Amazon, by contrast, is seen selling about 10.7 million tablets, and Samsung 8.4 million. Samsung, though, should handily beat Apple in terms of smartphone sales, with Walkley predicting 303.6 million from the company versus 193.9 million Apple iPhones. Together, both corporations should control over half of the global smartphone market; the next closest competitor, Huawei, is forecast to sell just 47.9 million units next year. Apple and Samsung are also said to have claimed 106 percent of Q3 2012 profits in the smartphone industry. The figure is based on operating losses at other companies, namely Nokia, Motorola, and Research in Motion.

What difference does it make what this guy says? If Apple should "only" sell 100 million it will be reported that Apple missed analysts' expectations. And the stock will drop.

There is no way an analyst can correctly predict anything unless he has "inside" information.

Everything Apple sells, on average, has about a 40% profit margin. How much profit margin does Samsung have? Whose bank account is bigger? Apple will be switching suppliers, or already is, and the margins may be even larger. These guys measure the size of THEIR wanger to decide what women like best.

Care to make a little monetary wager on this, trolltrolltroller? Since you're so sure they won't hit that target, and I'm sure they will, you should man up and PM me your proposal on a bet. I think this might be the easiest money I'll earn all year.
