In parallel with the launch of iTunes 11, Apple has posted two more minor updates. The first is a v5.1.1 firmware update for second- and third-generation Apple TVs. Apple hasn't identified changes in the code beyond a pair of security vulnerabilities, but the upgrade may be intended to ensure compatibility with iTunes.

The company has meanwhile released v3.0 of its Remote app for iOS. The app now supports Up Next, a playlist control feature also seen in iTunes 11. The iPad interface has meanwhile been redesigned to resemble iTunes 11, for instance enabling the Expanded tracklist view when tapping on albums. When searching for music, an iPad will display results as a user types.

Nothing about the many users whose ATVs were bricked by the last update?

I just had my 3rd generation Apple TV replaced at my local Apple Store due to the last update effectively killing the WiFi connectivity and reducing even direct ethernet connection to a crawl when streaming anything. I even backed up to the previous update which at least allowed me to connect via ethernet, but without any meaningful streaming speed. The Apple Rep updated my Apple TV back to the latest update as of last Sunday and confirmed no WiFi capability and then replaced it with the only one they had in the store. It's working fine now but I am really leary of updating it and killing it again.

Well I can confirm that the 5.1.1 update works perfectly on my Apple TV 2nd gen (black brick). I had to revert to 5.0.2 previously after updating to 5.1 which killed access to Netflix and Hulu Plus on my unit. (Here is an Apple Forum thread on how to downgrade: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4372428?tstart=0 ). However with 5.1.1 installed I can get Hulu Plus and Netflix as well as stream music, movies, etc off iCloud via AirPort WiFi. Of course, YMMV...but at least that thread will show you how to downgrade to the stable 5.0.2!
