According to ABC News, thieves stole over 7,000 Nintendo
Wii U gaming consoles between 9PM Saturday and noon Sunday under the cover of weather. The thieves pulled into Seattle-Tacoma Airport's Air Cargo warehouse and loaded 64 shrink-wrapped pallets of consoles into semi-trucks brought for the purpose. Investigators are looking for two large trailers with "McKinney" printed on the side, and a Seattle Air Cargo box truck, both stolen prior to the heist.
Electronista spoke with a Nintendo of America official who noted that there were anti-theft mechanisms built into the console, but declined to specify the measures that could be taken. The official said that the consoles stolen were serialized sequentially, and that a list of the stolen devices' serial numbers would be distributed to retailers in the Seattle metro area shortly. Nintendo of America believes the retail value of the stolen consoles to top $2.44 million.
Kotaku was informed by the King County Sheriff's Office that investigators "want people to call if they see anybody advertising for any great deals for Wii U's on Ebay or privately, especially if there's a large quantity of them." The King County Sheriff's office can be contacted at 206-296-3311.
