Samsung has announced that it
passed the 100 million sales milestone for its Galaxy S smartphones. The South Korean technology giant said that it achieved the milestone just two years and seven months following the launch of the original Galaxy S in May 2010. Of the three models sold so far, the 4.8-inch
Galaxy S III is the fastest selling model to date selling 40 million units in just 7 months.
The
Galaxy S II is the next best selling model in the family, notching up 40 million sales, but over a longer 20-month period. Of the three Galaxy S handsets, the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy S III remain on sale, with Samsung recently refreshing the Galaxy S II with the Galaxy S II Plus. However, given the rate of sales of the Galaxy S III, it can be expected that it will quickly establish a clear margin over the Galaxy S II.
The next-generation
Galaxy S IV is rumored to be well into development with a purported image of the device recently surfacing. It is expected to continue the big screen Android smartphone trend with a 5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display with 441 pixels per inch. It is expected to pack a quad-core Exynos 5440 processor and incorporate a 13-megapixel camera into the rear. A reveal is rumored for March or April. [
