UK Safari users sue Google over browser tracking

A group of 12 people in the UK are suing Google for tracking their browsing habits via Apple's Safari browser, says The Telegraph. The case is being handled by a lawfirm called Olswang, which says that between the summer of 2011 and the spring of 2012, cookies in Safari were generating profiles of users without their knowledge, despite promises by Google and default settings in the browser. "Google has a responsibility to consumers and should be accountable for the trust placed in them. We hope that they will take this opportunity to give Safari users a proper explanation about what happened, to apologize and, where appropriate, compensate the victims of their intrusion," says Olswang partner Dan Tench. Late last year, Google was fined $22.5 million over the same issue in the US. That should give the UK case a solid footing, although it's not a guarantee of success. Regardless, Google may choose to settle out of court to minimize costs.

No wonder.... I hate the google instant.... so I go for the shortcut:
https://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en
except I added a little spice (the crypt) to my homepage. I was wondering why about a year ago the first characters I typed were laggy every time, like the characters were being logged somewhere. Bad on crApple for allowing this to progress or even proliferate until legal action was taken. crApple should have known about these possibilities before... where's my yard stick?

Google Instant send each keypress to Google to predict what you're typing so there will be some lag there. If it weren't for Apple everyone would still be using uninspired POS cellphones and nobody would have a tablet worth using.

My bad.... let me clarify: The lag was even after I incorporated my homepage method, which already disables google instant, at least that is what it supposed to do. The problem was that even with this method, there was always a lag after the first few characters were typed. And you thought I was stupid.

So Apple implements a "do not track" feature, and Google finds a way to illegally circumvent it...and this is APPLE's fault?

Did the cookie contain personal information like name, address etc.? Or did it just record specific interests of the person browsing the web. So that a site could display advertising targeted towards that persons interests. I've done some poking around but have yet to find an answer.
Something to consider if a person doesn't want anyone to know the sites they have visited,
ISP keep record of ip address activity - Google Search
Of course your ISP doesn't sell this information for profit. But they DO know where you've been.
