The rumored
low-cost iPhone may resemble an iPhone 5 from the front, but otherwise use a different, mostly plastic design,
iLounge sources claim. The device is expected to keep the iPhone 5's 4-inch screen, but elsewhere use blend traits of the normal iPhone 5 with the iPod styling. This includes curved edges similar to the iPod classic, and a bottom akin to the fifth-generation iPod touch.
Aside from using plastic instead of metal, another alleged tradeoff of the new phone is a slight increase in size. The hardware is
said to be "a half-millimeter taller and a half-millimeter wider" than the iPhone 5, and "almost" a millimeter thicker. The back the device is claimed to have a camera, microphone, and rear flash arrangement similar to the new Touch, but without a protruding lens, and a circular mic hole instead of a pill-shaped one. Port arrangement is reportedly similar to the iPhone 5, but with fewer surrounding holes; among these are a hole for a second mic next to the headphone port, two screw holes next to the Lightning port, and four holes for the speaker on the bottom right.
The veracity of
iLounge's claims are still up in the air, since the site has yet to produce supporting photos, and reports of a cheap-yet-new iPhone have circulated for years without bearing fruit. So far, the company has addressed cost complaints by keeping older iPhones on the market.
