The CEO of Adobe, Shantanu Narayen, has refused to answer questions concerning the company's product pricing in Australia. The press conference, ahead of a governmental pricing inquiry saw Narayen avoid explaining why Australians are forced to pay as much as $1,400 more than customers in the US for its Creative Suite.
The video, filmed by aDelimiter journalist earlier today in Sydney, saw Narayen being challenged over the price disparity despite it being exactly the same product, and responding with marketing rhetoric. Despite being repeatedly pressed and flatly told by the journalist asking the question that he was not providing an answer, Narayen continued to extol the virtues of Creative Cloud.
"When we look at the Creative Cloud, and where the future of the Creative Cloud is, and the future of where we're heading with the company, we think that it's the best offering for customers," said Narayen, before calling the pricing of Creative Cloud "Great value to our customers." When told about how customers preferred the existing Creative Suite offerings rather than an online subscription service, Narayen continued talking about Creative Cloud and it's new option for teams, again avoiding the question.
The summoning by the Australian Parliament also included Apple and Microsoft, and is tasked with finding out why the companies charge as much as 50-percent higher for their products in Australia than elsewhere in the world. Already, Adobe has cut its prices on Creative Cloud to be more in line with the US because of the inquiry, though it has not done the same for its Creative Suites. It has been reported byGizmodo that the price difference between the US and Australia for the Creative Suite Master Collection as a digitally-distributed product is so high, it would be cheaper to buy a return flight from Sydney to Los Angeles just to purchase the software.
Thank you Shantanu Narayen for being so rude and not answering the question(s). Adobe is a company that deserves to fail because of people like you. I don't know how else to put it, you make me ill and so do your products.
Adobe used to be a great company, until they Shantanu Narayen snapped up its competition and turned it into a monopoly. Behold the power of ultimate control. You will buy what we tell you to buy. Period. Shantanu Narayen is a shining example of someone who puts profits ahead of integrity.
Adobe support (or lack thereof) is another example of chasing profit and turning a blind eye to quality. Ever call Adobe support for help? It's bad enough you get someone with marginal english speaking capability, but it gets worse when you realize the poor guy/girl on the other end has no friggin' idea how to help you - now try to get transferred and see how quickly the call is disconnected (the former results in repremand; the later is blown off as normal).
More rupees for Adobe's coffers...more cr@ppy software (or "cloud" offering) for the suckers who spend money on it. But what choice is there, Adobe has a monopoly.
Hey, India has 1.3 billion people to feed (at over 10x the population density of the US), so their heroes like Shantanu Narayen are going to lie, cheat and steal to ensure they protect their profit margin. Nothing like exploiting cheap labor to feed share holders.
