Mad Catz has opened up pre-orders for its surround sound gaming headset. The
F.R.E.Q.7 shares a similar angular design of its predecessor, the
F.R.E.Q 5, but offers gamers an upgrade from standard stereo to both 5.1 channel stereo and 7.1 surround sound, through a combination of Dolby Headphone Technology and Dolby Pro Logic IIx.
Users will be able to switch between the two modes on the headset itself, and can also use the software-driven equalizer, which itself provides a number of settings for gaming, voice, and music, as well as the option to separately adjust volume levels for game and voice chat. A detachable in-line cable allows it to use 3.5mm sockets on mobile devices, as well as through a USB connection, and is also supplied with a purpose-built stand.
The F.R.E.Q. 1 is expected to ship in the first quarter of fiscal 2014, namely between March and May, at a cost of $200. Four different color options will be available, including matt black, gloss black, gloss white, and gloss red.
