Samsung has lost an important ruling in its Japanese lawsuit versus Apple, according to Reuters and The Times of India. The company has been barred from asserting several data transmission patents against the iPhone. "We are disappointed by today's court decision," Samsung responds in an official statement. "Following a thorough review of the ruling, we will take the measures necessary to protect our intellectual property rights."

Samsung first filed suit against Apple in Japan in April 2011. In January 2013, Samsung filed a petition to get documents from a California Apple v. Samsung lawsuit for use in the Japanese case, but the US court denied it. Apple opposed the motion on the claim that Samsung was trying to bypass normal Japanese legal procedures. The latter company has had some success in Japan, though. In August 2012, a Tokyo court ruled against an Apple infringement claim on a patent involving music and video sync with remote servers. Apple is currently appealing the decision.

To date even with verdict losses like this, Samsung has yet to pay a single dollar to Apple nor had to withhold selling a single device in any market thanks to court delays and appeals. Lesson learned by Samsung: rip Apple off..you really have little to nothing to lose!
