TP Vision create Philips DesignLine HDTV from sheet of glass
Dutch television manufacturer TP Vision has created a new TV that replaces the bezel and base stand with a single pane of glass. The Philips DesignLine TV has a black gradient lowering from the screen to the floor that also hides the screen itself when switched off, and the TV itself is designed to lean against a wall or pillar.
In two versions measuring 46 inches and 55 inches, the screen panel sits behind the glass, uses the Perfect Pixel HD engine for image processing, is capable a 1,400Hz frame rate, and can also display 3D imagery at a Full HD resolution. Smart TV functionality is offered through a remote control with a built-in keyboard and point capability, while the TV itself has on-board Wi-Fi, supports the Philips MyRemote app, Miracast, and SimplyShare for wireless streaming from computers and mobile devices. A three-sided Ambilight XL that projects colors matching the screen content shines onto the supporting wall behind the set, and an optional MultiRoom upgrade will allow it to stream broadcast content from the master TV to a secondary set elsewhere in the home.
A price was not revealed by the company, though it is confirmed to go on sale during the second quarter in Europe and Russia.
