Google has expanded the reach of notebooks running its cloud-centric Chrome OS. The company has revealed on its blog
that it has worked with its partners including Acer, HP and Samsung to rollout their low-cost devices to new consumer markets in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands. Google is also targeting business and schools
in the same countries with special online promotional events scheduled for late March.
Without revealing actual sales figures, Google has also used the opportunity to highlight that the Samsung Chromebook has been Amazon UK's top selling notebook for the 149 days since it launched there. It also says that according to Dixons, Chromebooks make up 10 percent of notebook sales in Currys and PC World stores. While in the US, Chromebooks will expanding to over 1,000 Best Buy stores over the 'next couple of weeks.'
With Apple's iPad firmly in its sights, Google has also revealed that Chromebooks are now in over 2,000 schools in the US. The company is also pushing users to its Google in Education Google+ Page
, where teachers can join colleagues in one its Hangouts On Air promotional events. Staff will be able to speak to Google product specialists who will be answering online audience questions.
