A number of cities may have been identified as launch locations for T-Mobile's 4G LTE roll-out. Details picked up by crowdsourced network coverage map service OpenSignal suggests that it could launch in nine different cities in the United States, when the carrier is expected to launch the network upgrade later this month.

Submissions from OpenSignal users show LTE access in areas of Seattle, Denver, Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York, San Diego, Kansas City, and the San Jose/Bay Area. An average download speed of 25Mbps was observed, along with an 8Mbps average speed for uploads, and an average latency of 40ms. Though these speeds are commented by OpenSignal as above the average "real world speeds of LTE networks all around the world," it is likely to deteriorate once a significant number of customers start using the network.

An over-the-air update is being sent to customers using the Samsung Galaxy Note II, which would make it the first smartphone on the network capable of accessing it. The BlackBerry Z10 could possibly be launching on the carrier at the same launch event, which would place the number of devices that T-Mobile offers with 4G LTE access at two.
