is expanding the reach of its LTE coverage in Canada to include an extra 44 markets over the next few months, increasing the proportion of the Canadian population covered by LTE to beyond the 60-percent hit last year
. The expansion will also see 34 of the 44 new markets become capable of maximum theoretical network speeds of 150Mbps, using the carrier's 2600MHz spectrum band.
Areas earmarked for the LTE rollout include Saint John, New Brunswick; Medicine Hat, Alberta; Sault Ste. Marie, Guelph, Muskoka, and Collingwood Ontario; and a number of cities in Quebec. Rogers hopes to add another 51 markets to the LTE list, which will bring the total number of markets to get LTE coverage by the end of 2013 to 95.
Aside from LTE signal, currently Rogers covers approximately 95-percent of the Canadian population with GSM signal, and 90-percent have access to 4G HSPA+ through the carrier.
