are working on more exclusive programming for their respective streaming services, in order to increase their market share. Netflix will be producing a series by the creators of The Matrix
and Babylon 5
, while Amazon will be adding a single episode of the Zombieland
series to the roster for its Amazon Instant Video pilot scheme.
The Wachowskis from The Matrix
trilogy and J Michael Straczynski of Babylon 5
will be producing Sense8
, a ten-episode science-fiction thriller about linked minds. Netflix's previous exclusive series, House of Cards
, saw the service put all 13 episodes online at the same time, allowing viewers to watch the entire series on their own schedule, and as many episodes from the season in one go as wanted.
In contrast to plans from Netflix, Amazon will continue its work of offering pilots to its users. The Zombieland
pilot will be produced by the same creative time as the movie, and show a group of people evading the undead. Said to be airing at the same time as six other comedy pilots
and six children's pilots on Amazon Instant Video and LoveFilm in the UK, viewers will be able to watch the pilots and then rate each show. The shows with more favorable customer feedback will help determine which pilots will be made into full seasons, to air on Prime Instant Video.
