Cloud systems company Nebula today announced the availability of the Nebula One, a low-configuration enterprise cloud computer. The hardware is a turnkey private cloud system that provides computational, network, and storage services through a simple self-guided interface with familiar APIs, using industry-standard servers from vendors such as HP, IBM, and Dell.
At the core of the Nebula One cloud system is the Nebula Cloud Controller, a dedicated hardware appliance that turns pre-outfitted racks of industry-standard servers into a scalable on-site cloud system. Nebula One runs Cosmos, Nebula's distributed enterprise cloud operating system, which builds on the industry-standard OpenStack to provide a self-service user experience. In addition, the OS adds compatibility with Amazon Web Services and OpenStack APIs to equipment that may not already boast compatibility with the services.
The company claims that a single-rack server may be enough for most businesses, but the appliance can scale up multi-rack deployments up to 1,600 processor cores, 9.4TB of memory, and 2.3PB of storage to meet the needs of large enterprises. The CTR-1500 Nebula One device itself is a dual 16-core 1.6Ghz Opteron server coupled with a 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch, all mounted in a 2U chassis.
The appliance has 64GB of RAM, with a 32GB mSATA flash drive for caching. A 256GB 2.5-inch SSD paired with a 1TB 7200 RPM hard drive is provided for storage. A pair of 650W hot-swappable power supplies drive the unit.
Nebula One appliances are available immediately. Pricing is dependent on licensing agreements at $100,000 and up. Quotes on specific configurations are available directly from the manufacturer.
