High-performance RAID storage solution developer Promise Technology
unveiled a low-cost turnkey storage area network (SAN) solution in the new VTrak A-Class
. Aimed at creative professionals in the media and entertainment market, the 4U VTrak A-Class is built for the storage-intensive workflows of post-production, data asset management and archiving. Promise's new storage solution enables multiple clients running Windows, Mac OS X or Linux to access a shared SAN filesystem over Fiber Channel.
The device is capable of high-performance with low latency over a shared SAN optimized for high-definition resolution, providing over 5.5GB per second sequential read and 2.4GB per second sequential write performance per node, up to eight nodes. Heterogeneous OS environments are supported, including Mac OS X 10.7 and greater, Windows 7 and above, and most Linux distributions.
Promise boasts up to 40 percent power savings with the A3800 series over competing technologies, with at least 30 percent less required rackspace for additional servers and switches. The chassis has hot-swappable controllers, drives, and power supply units. Up to eight simultaneous filesystems can be supported per system. Capacity can be boosted by adding eight VTrak Ex30f series subsystem storage nodes making a maximum total capacity of 7.68 petabytes storage.
PROMISE Technology's VTrak A-Class will be available in North America on April 29 through various channels. Pricing is available by request.
