Leap Motion has made a deal with HP to embed its 3D motion-tracking controller into HP devices. The agreement will initially see HP providing the Leap Motion Controller with specific HP products as a bundle, and will explore fully integrating the motion-tracking technology into future, unannounced HP devices.
The three-inch Leap Motion Controller itself creates an interaction area where fingers and hands are tracked by the system. Able to track motion in three dimensions, it is able to track fingers by up to 1/100th of a millimeter, and is able to be used with a pen or other items as a make-shift in-air stylus. The controller itself will be shipping on May 13th for $80, with HP's bundling similar to an earlier deal Leap Motion made with Asus. Devices with the integrated controller will be preloaded with the Airspace app store, which will contain apps usable with the controller.
This is the first agreement Leap Motion has made that involves their technology being integrated inside a device, which could lead to notebooks, desktops, and tablets that offer motion control without requiring an external adapter.
