Amazon is allowing its customers to view new television shows on its streaming services in the US and the UK, in order to decide which to create into a full series. The 14 pilot shows, created by subsidiary Amazon Studios, can be watched on Amazon Instant Video
, with the retailer hoping to use viewer comments to influence its choice of which shows get a full 13-episode season commission.
The 14 new shows, six programs created for children and eight comedy pilots
, are a mix of new programs and shows spawned from existing properties. Zombieland
, a series based on the movie of the same name, and the Onion News Empire
are pitted against shows about intens, Silicon Valley, politics, and teachers, as well as six shows aimed towards a younger audience.
The push for original and exclusive content by Amazon is the latest move by streaming services to try and entice audiences to subscribe. Main competitor Netflix has seen success with new episodes of Arrested Development
and House of Cards
, and recently started production on filming a sci-fi series from the creators of The Matrix
and Babylon 5
