Twitter, which has made something of a hobby of restricting, hobbling and subsequently killing off mobile Twitter clients, will be putting the well-received mobile version of Tweetdeck out to pasture on May 7, the same day that Facebook integration will also end. All iPhone, Android, and AIR versions of the app will cease to function on that day.

Tweetdeck was one of the first -- and best -- clients for simultaneously posting to both Twitter and Facebook, but since purchasing the app Twitter has opted to end that convenience for its users as part of its rivalry with Facebook. The usefulness of cross-network posting has been mitigated somewhat with Apple's iOS integration of both Twitter and Facebook, but Tweetdeck was one of only a handful of clients that allowed users to both read and post to multiple FB and Twitter accounts. The web-only version of Tweetdeck is said to be continuing, along with the desktop versions for Mac and PC as well as a Google Chrome app. Twitter bought out Tweetdeck in 2011 for a reported $40 million.

Volkswagen teases iBeetle with integrated iPhone dock

Though not quite the "extensively-integrated interface designed in cooperation with Apple" that many VW fans were hoping for, the German auto company will debut an "iBeetle" version of its beloved model at the Shanghai Auto Show. The model will have a dash-mounted dock built in, along with an iOS app that coordinates with a handful of vehicle functions, including a chronometer, oil and coolant temperature gauges and lateral acceleration. The app will also feature access to Spotify, a photo gallery, and social media/text message reader, as well as a "postcard" feature that updates friends about the driver's current location.

The auto includes custom wheels and an iPhone-matching interior color scheme, and is expected to show up in dealer showrooms next year, reports LeftLaneNews. Other manufacturers have gone much further with iOS integration in cars, not least of which is the recent adoption by Chevrolet of Apple's "Eyes Free" mode that integrates not only the music player but Siri itself into the vehicle, allowing steering-wheel controls to activate common functions on the iPhone that can be handled without the iPhone's screen ever coming up -- including turn-by-turn spoken directions, sending and receiving texts, making and receiving calls and more.

Petition started to add native Armenian iPhone keyboard to iOS

An Armenian website has begun a petition asking Apple to add a native Armenian keyboard layout to its extensive list of supported languages. The language is still spoken widely in and outside Armenia, including several notably large Armenian communities in the US and elsewhere. It is one of the oldest languages still in modern use behind Hebrew, reckoned to be at least 1,600 years old -- with a fifth-century Bible as the oldest surviving document of its written alphabet, and a unique example of Indo-European language. The petition asks that the language be added to iOS devices, emphasizing that it is vital for education, communication and sustaining the use of the language.
