A new rumor
has Sony set to ramp up the smartphone camera battle in the second half of 2013 with a smartphone featuring either a 16 or 20-megapixel sensor. The sensor is also said to be one of the largest to feature on a smartphone at 1/1.6-inches and will be an Exmor RS stacked sensor type paired with a Cybershot G glass lens. It is expected to appear on the sequel to the Xperia Z, which is reportedly codenamed 'Honami.'
The 'Honami' looks set to be the closest yet Sony has come to putting its 'One Sony' philosophy
into practice in its hardware, if its rumored specifications are anything to go by. While it is already marketing the Xperia Z as 'The best of Sony in a smartphone," the 'Honami' could take this concept to another level. It will center on either a 4.8 or 5-inch 1080p display that could be the first to utilize Sony's Triluminos display technology
, which produces much wider color gamut than most smartphone displays.
It could also be the first Sony smartphone to incorporate a Walkman amplifier, possibly the S-Master MX digital amplifier. The rumored chip for the device is said to be a quad-core Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.3GHz matched with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 GPU. Its battery could hold up to 3000mAh, while its vaunted camera could be joined by a dual-LED and Xenon flash. It may make an appearance at IFA in Berlin this August. [via GSM Arena
