Google may be branching out into making games
, after hiring a games industry veteran. Noah Falstein, designer of a number of games over his 23-year career, has been picked up by the search giant and given the title "Chief Game Designer," suggesting that the company could be producing its own games, introducing gaming concepts to its products, or even building its own gaming platform on Android.
Falstein has worked with companies including 3DO, LucasArts, and Dreamworks Interactive, according to TechCrunch
, and spent the last 16 years running game design consultancy The Inspiracy, among other projects. Though Falstein's LinkedIn
profile shows him as working for Google, an earlier version of the page places him as "Chief Game Designer at Android Play Studio," and that his work will be relating to the mobile operating system in some capacity.
While the obvious conclusion is that Google is producing games, Falstein's employment is likely to be for slightly different purposes, considering the number of games available for Android. Last month, a multiplayer component
was found in the companion app for Google Glass
, hinting at a possible backend structure for developers to use in their titles to provide basic multiplayer gameplay, achievements, and other player services.
