Following hot on the heels of the Sony SBH20
Bluetooth earphones, the company has also revealed a more upmarket variant, the SBH50
. The new headset is notable for including a small OLED display into its remote with app extensions available through Google Play. The extensions allow users to browse their call log, read text notifications and messages on the display without needs to pull out a smartphone.
The SBH50 also includes its own onboard FM radio with RDS, allowing it to be used with or without a smartphone when in radio mode. Sony touts this feature as a way of saving smartphone battery life while on the go. Using the power conserving Bluetooth 3.0 spec, the SBH50 can also be paired with more than one device from any maker, including tablets, notebooks and smartphones. Sony has also built NFC connectivity into the device allowing them to be paired with another NFC device with one touch.
Sony says that the SBH50 is good for up to 400 hours of standby on its built-in lithium ion battery, or up to 8 hours of audio streaming. The device comes in black and white variants and should be available in the next few weeks in both black and white variants. [via Ubergizmo
