At today's Google I/O keynote, Google has demonstrated a revamped Maps app for iOS and Android. In the coming months, Android users will see an upgrade, bringing the Maps for iOS user interface and features. Additionally, a long-awaited iPad version of the utility will be made available for the iPad.
Among the changes listed for Google Maps is integration with Google Offers, including deals from local and national retailers. Users will be able to rate restaurants on a five-star scale, with viewing of either the crowd-sourced opinions, or Zagat reviews directly in the app. Traffic alerts will grow to include live reports of problem spots and accidents world-wide.
A new "carousel" function gathers all of the Google Maps imagery for the user in one spot. Using a WebGL-enabled browser, users can integrated the 3D view from Google Earth into the displayed map.
Google notes other changes, including "smarter directions and tours generated from user-submitted photos." A invite request page previously mistakenly opened early is now available.
