Almost one in ten notebook computers shipped in the first quarter of 2013 have touchscreens, according to a market research firm's report. It is claimed by Displaybank
that 4.57 million of the notebooks used the displays out of a total shipment figure of 46 million, a rise of 51.8 percent compared to the previous quarter.
While the IHS-owned research company notes the touch-enabled notebook market is still in its initial stage, it still believes "the penetration rate of touch screen notebooks is quite high," reports Digitimes
. As a whole, the market is apparently expected to keep its shipments of touchscreen notebooks at around 10-percent, but Displaybank states Lenovo, Acer, Asus, and other brands from the Greater China region are aiming for more than 20-percent.
Though a 20-percent shipment rate of notebooks with touchscreens is possible, computer manufacturers face a bleak year for shipments overall, after both IDC and Gartner
last month revealed the worst year-on-year drop in quarterly computer shipments for almost 20 years.
