Apple is indeed planning to launch a streaming music service at WWDC next week, and carry audio ads
on it, according to new sources. One of the people tells Reuters
that Apple has contacted some of its bigger advertisers, but hasn't started selling the service extensively. The sources also back reports that the service - often nicknamed iRadio -- will resemble Pandora in its revenue scheme, and feature both audio and banner ads, sold through iAd.
The service is expected to launch later this year, and include ads already sold through iAd. The first part of the claim could mean that iRadio will only launch around the same time as iOS 7 and a next-generation iPhone, both of which are rumored to be shipping in September. Apple may need the extra time to secure deals with Sony and Sony/ATV, the remaining major-label holdouts on iRadio deals.
