Yahoo has listed off another 12 products that the search company will be shuttering over the summer. AltaVista
, a search engine bought by Yahoo in 2013, is the most notable from the list, with the shutdown of a number of services part of "an ongoing effort to sharpen our focus and deliver experiences that enhance your daily lives," according to the company blog
Browser plug-in Yahoo Axis, Yahoo Browser Plus, Citizen Sports, and Yahoo WebPlayer will all be shut down by the end of June. FoxyTunes, Yahoo RSS Alerts, Yahoo Neighbors, Yahoo Stars India, Yahoo Stars India, Yahoo Downloads, and the aforementioned AltaVista will all be stopped in July, with AltaVista set to go on July 8th. Access to the Yahoo Local API and Yahoo Term Extraction APIs will be turned off on September 28th.
The removal of older services is something that Yahoo has grown accustomed to doing in recent times, having announced another round of closures in April
