The iPhone's share of the US smartphone market rose 3.5 percent year-over-year during a three-month period ending in May 2013, according to new Kantar Worldpanel data. The growth to 41.9 percent of sales is credited in large part to the successful launch of the phone on T-Mobile
. Prior to April, T-Mobile was the last major national carrier without the iPhone.
Since then the device has represented about 31 percent of T-Mobile smartphone sales. That is, however, less than a 60.5 percent figure at AT&T, and 43.8 percent at Verizon. Sprint is unmentioned. Kantar notes, though, that Sprint and T-Mobile each account for relatively small portions of the US smartphone market -- 12.7 and 10.1 percent, respectively. Verizon is in the lead at 34.6 percent, while AT&T sits at 29.
The iPhone is still dwarfed in the US by Android devices, which inched ahead 0.1 points in the survey period to 52 percent. Microsoft's Windows Phone has nevertheless established a beachhead, growing 0.9 percent to a 4.6 percent share.
