An upgraded Samsung Galaxy S4 has had its benchmarks leaked. The new model is listed by the identifier GT-I9506 and runs a Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz. The current US version of the Galaxy S4 runs a Snapdragon 600 clocked at 1.9GHz and carries the model identifier GT-I9505. The new benchmarks show the upgraded model outpacing the current-gen device by a considerable margin in both processing and graphics performance.

The upgraded Galaxy S4 GT-I9506 has clocked up a score of 31,123 on the AnTuTu benchmarking utility, which is in line with other devices running the new Snapdragon 800. By comparison, the original model punched out a score of 23181, which was quick when it launched just a few months ago in March. Graphics performance of the Adreno 330 in the Snapdragon 800 scores 9465 on the AnTuTu 3D on screen rating against a score of 5632 for the Adreno 320 in the Snapdragon 600. As an interesting point of comparison, the iPhone 5 scores a massive 13671 points in the same test, smoking both Adreno chips with its tri-core PowerVR SGX 543MP3 GPU for graphics performance.

HTC is also rumored to be releasing text handset before the end of the year, similarly running the Snapdragon 800 chipset. Sony is rumored to be releasing an upgraded Xperia Z, while LG's forthcoming G2 5.2-inch flagship is also running the same Snapdragon 800 chipset, but will beat both Samsung and HTC to market by several months. Both HTC and Samsung have followed similar mid-life upgrades to their devices in an ongoing specification war being fought largely between Android makers. [via GSM Arena]
