Sprint has revealed that it will be rolling out its 4G LTE network in New York, albeit in a limited capacity. The carrier will be providing coverage to customers using the New York City subway system in the future, and a number of above-ground locations will also receive 4G LTE and improved 3G coverage in the coming weeks.

LTE service in above-ground areas of Brooklyn and Bronx will launch by July 30th, according to a company statement. While Sprint has managed to make LTE live in a number of small pockets around the city, the company has only revealed that it would grow the network "in the coming months," rather than giving a more certain timeframe for other areas of the city, such as Queens, Staten Island, and Manhattan.

The plan for the subway system sees Sprint providing service in all 277 subway stations, though not this year, reports Engadget. Customers of Sprint, Boost Mobile, and Virgin Mobile will be able to use the LTE network in mid-town Manhattan and Chelsea stations at first, with the initial wave comprising of 36 stations. A further forty will be added in Phase 2, including Grand Central Station, Bryant Park, other stations in mid-town Manhattan and throughout Queens, with completion expected in early 2014.
