Google has revealed the new version of the Nexus 7 tablet, one year after the launch of the original, at its breakfast event today. Appearing briefly at Best Buy earlier today, the new Nexus 7 is said to be a more portable version of the tablet line, having shaved a few millimeters from each edge and 50 grams of weight, while retaining the screen size of the first version, and will be the first device to ship preloaded with Android 4.3.

The new seven-inch display improves on the previous model by offering a 1920x1200 resolution, providing it a pixel density of 323 pixels per inch, which the company claims is the "highest PPI of any tablet on the market." The Nexus 7 also provides a 30-percent wider range of colors in the display, dual stereo speakers with Fraunhofer virtual surround sound, a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera, and a front-facing 1.2-megapixel version.

The processor has been changed to a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset running at 1.5GHz, using a processor that is 1.8 times faster and a GPU four times faster than the previous model, supported by 2GB of RAM. Connectivity over dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI-out, and NFC will be provided, along with an unlocked 4G LTE model for the United States that will work on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. It will also have the capability to wirelessly charge, and is said to have power to last for up to nine hours of HD video playback and 10 hours of browsing.

The new Nexus 7 will be out in three models. The 16GB model costing $229 and the $269 32GB versions with Wi-Fi will go on sale on July 30th in the United States. The LTE model will be selling for $349, and will be available in the coming weeks. The UK, Germany, South Korea, Japan, France, Spain, Canada, and Australia will see the device launch in the countries in the next few weeks.
