Adding to the bevy of executives departing the company, Blackberry PlayBook
chief David J. Smith is departing the Canadian manufacturer. The executive announced his departure within the last few weeks according to sources familiar with the matter, and is leaving for unspecified personal reasons.
A statement from the company claims that Smith "continues to come into work every day and is committed to working with BlackBerry through a proper transition." Smith himself has had no comment on his exit from the company.
The executive took the reins of the Blackberry tablet division shortly after its 2011 launch. The poorly selling device was originally slated to receive an upgrade to BlackBerry 10, but CEO Thorsten Heins to do so.
