At today's Google event, Motorola Mobile and Sol Republic have unveiled the Deck
portable Bluetooth wireless speaker. The device features 360-degree "full sound," 300-foot wireless range and Heist Mode, which allows up to five friends to simultaneously pair to the speaker set and take turns controlling the music.
Powered by R2 Sound Engines, Deck delivers bass in a slim, portable design. The large R2 Sound Engines combined with a bass port, high-watt amplifier, and a huge lithium-ion battery for power offer what the companies call "bigger sound than you would expect from a pocket-sized speaker."
Heist mode allows users to share their favorite track or change it up with a different sound. To show who has control of Deck, a backlit logo on the speaker changes colors as different users "heist" the speaker set with a new song.
The speaker set includes speakerphone functionality, an "outdoor mode" giving the unit amplified sounds, a stereo-in and stereo-out jack allowing users to daisy chain multiple units together. Primary connectivity is provided with near-field communication (NFC) or Bluetooth pairing.
Preorders have begun on the unit, for $199. The first shipments are expected to arrive in the beginning of September.
