Samsung will be releasing its own 55-inch curved OLED HDTV in the United States, less than a month after LG launched
its own version in Best Buy. The KN55S9C, going on sale from tomorrow onwards through Samsung's website and select retailers, is also undercutting the $15,000 price tag of the LG offering, selling for the cheaper $9,000.
The curvature of the display allows for content to be the same distance away from the viewer for the middle and the sides of the image, in theory eliminating distortion from the edges. Samsung also opted to use self-emitting RGB sub-pixels laid directly on the color display panel, eliminating the color filter and backlighting and improving contrast further, reports Slashgear
The television will be the first to ship with Full HD Multi View, which will allow two viewers to watch completely different full-screen HD content in 3D, on the same display, using a pair of active shutter 3D glasses with built-in personal speakers. As with its other Smart TVs, it will provide panels with social features, apps, S Recommendation for content discovery, and one for photos, videos, and music. The Smart TV functions will also work with the Evolution Kit
shown by the company at CES this year.
