Microsoft will be shuttering its QR code competitor in the next few years, according to e-mails sent to customers. The Microsoft Tag
service, which allows companies to embed data into an image for scanning by a smartphone application, will end on August 19th, 2015, reports Engadget
. Despite its impending demise, the format will still operate via QR code service Scanbuy
, which will start to support aspects of Microsoft Tag from September this year.
Five-minute Google outage to cost $500,000, lowers global traffic by 40 percent
A Google services outage lowered global Internet traffic by around 40 percent, according to web analytics firm GoSquared
. The five-minute outage on August 16th, visible on the Google Apps Dashboard
across all services, is believed to have cost the company around $500,000 for the five minutes it was down for, claims Tribal Worldwide analyst Phil Dearson speaking to Sky News
, with the issue thought to be a "physical infrastructure problem."
