Without much fanfare, Apple has made a new model of iPhone 4S
free with a two-year wireless provider contract. A new 8GB iPhone 4S will be available on September 20, the same date that the $99 iPhone 5c and $199 iPhone 5s are released. With the migration of the 4S to the low-end iPhone, the iPhone 4 will be completely removed from sale.
The 8GB 4S is the last iPhone model to retain the 30-pin dock cable, and will come bundled with the basic earbuds, and not the newer Apple EarPods. An unlocked iPhone 4S will be available for $450 for the pay-as-you-go market. Besides storage capacity, no other changes to the phone have been noted. Like the iPhone 4 before it, the iPhone 4S will be compatible with iOS 7 when it is released next Wednesday.
