RealNetworks has launched its own cloud storage app specializing in video. RealPlayer Cloud
for iOS, Android, computers, and Roku will allow users to store video files online, with the new app able to stream or download videos from the storage, automatically reformatting the video to match the device and the available connection speed.
The automatic format changes, dubbed SurePlay, will take into account the type of device, the screen size, how fast Internet access is for the device, and how much local storage is available, allowing for a higher quality of video when viewed on a television at home as well as accommodating smartphones and tablets. Sharing video with friends is also catered for, with video playback provided on the guest device without needing to download and install an app before viewing.
Three paid account subscriptions are available, ranging from $5 per month or $49 per year for 25GB of storage and RealPlayer Plus to $30 per month or $299 per year for 300GB. A free account option is also available to users in the US and Canada, providing 2GB of cloud storage.
