has announced plans to launch two new Android handsets, Alcatel's OneTouch Fierce and OneTouch Evolve. Both are aimed at the budget market, though the Fierce represents more of a midrange offering with Android 4.2 and a 4.5-inch 540x960 display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of integrated storage.
The Evolve runs Android 4.1 and steps down to a four-inch screen with 480x800 resolution, along with a single-core 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.
Both handsets are slated for launch beginning October 5 in select stores, though full availability will be delayed until later in the month. The Fierce can be purchased with an initial $20 payment followed by 24 monthly payments of $6, while the Evolve costs $28 up front and requires two years of $3/month payments.
