US retailer Target
has launched its own on-demand video service, one which the company believes is "kid-safe" thanks to its rating filters. Target Ticket
is offering a catalog of 30,000 movies and television shows for customers to buy or rent for 48 hours, with the retailer also providing bonus footage in select movies as a Target exclusive.
Using ratings from non-profit advocacy group Common Sense Media, the service will provide access to "thousands of reviews," and can filter content based on MPAA and TV Parental Guidelines, age-appropriateness, and the level of violence or profanity. Profiles for individual family members can be set up, which not only limits what each person can view, but also allows for multiple users to use one account simultaneously.
Apps for Target Ticket are available to download on iOS, Android, Roku, the Xbox 360, and Samsung television and Blu-Ray players, as well as through a browser on Mac and PC. Titles will start from $0.99, with 10 free movie downloads available for each account upon sign-up, though Target REDcard holders will also receive five percent off purchases.
