A new video has surfaced
comparing an iPad 5 case with those from the iPad 4 and the iPad mini. The leak comes via parts retail site Sw-box
, which sells components for a range of Apple iPhones and other devices, suggesting that it has close connections with the Apple supply chain. The video confirms that the iPad mini-like design of the iPad 5, while also revealing that it will be slightly shorter, narrower and but notably thinner and as much as 37 percent lighter.
The new dimensions of the forthcoming iPad 5 have appeared in previously leaked case schematics
that indicate that it will measure around 240mm tall (iPad 4 242mm), around 169.5mm wide (iPad 4 185.7mm) and around 7.5mm thick (iPad 4 9.4mm). When looked in comparison with the existing models, the iPad 5 looks as though it might slot between them into the 8.9-inch tablet category, however Apple looks to have reduced the device's footprint while retaining its large 9.7-inch 4:3 aspect ratio Retina display.
Apple is widely expected to reveal the iPad 5 at an as yet unannounced event in mid-October. It is likely to house a 64-bit A7 chip, or a more powerful variant. Rumors also suggest that it might double the RAM found in the iPhone 5s, taking it up to 2GB. It could also integrate Apple's Touch ID fingerprint scanning tech as well. The shift downwards in overall device footprint could also gel with rumors that Apple is prepping a larger iPad
that would sit above the iPad 5 in its tablet range. [via Macrumors
