Details of the final design of the mysterious Google barge in San Francisco suggests that it will be an "unprecedented artistic structure," featuring a dozen large sails. A report claims that the structure, measuring 250 feet long and 50 feet in height, will have sails "reminiscent of fish fins" as part of the shipping container-based construction, to "remind visitors that they are on a seaworthy vessel."

Information received by SFGate via a Freedom of Information Act request to the port authority suggest that the barge is being constructed by a company named "By and Large LLC," one which is believed to be strongly connected to Google. The building is described in the documents as a "studio" and "temporary technology exhibit space" to "drive visitation to the waterfront." It is expected to pull in 1,000 visitors per day, and will move between various spots of the bay each month.

When the barges were first reported, it was speculated that Google was constructing some sort of floating data center, or a retail store to market various Google devices and services, with a "party deck" complete with bars and a lounge on the top level. Google has since stepped in to dismiss the floating data center an "wild party boat" rumors, instead referring it to be an "interactive space where people can learn about new technology."
