Motorola has launched its rumored Moto G smartphone at its live event in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The smartphone, a budget offering when compared to the preceding Moto X, offers a 4.5-inch, 720p, edge-to-edge display with a pixel density of 329ppi, in a device said to be the third of the cost of premium smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S 4.

The Moto G uses a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM, claimed to help it extend its battery life without sacrificing performance. On the back is a 5-megapixel camera with a 1.3-megapixel front-facing counterpart, internal storage consists of 8GB and 16GB options, and power comes from a 2,070mAh battery. LTE is notably absent, with the Moto G opting for 3G connectivity, and Moto Maker customization will not be available at all, instead replaced by a collection of detachable covers and casings that can be switched by the user.

Software-wise, the Moto G runs a relatively-stock Android 4.3, but the Google-owned company will provide Android 4.4 by January 2014. Quick Capture and Active Notifications are also lost in the transition from the Moto X, but Motorola Assist, an automatic mode changing system, as well as an overhauled camera app and Motorola Migrate do make an appearance, along with 50GB of Google Drive storage.

Motorola is shipping the 8GB version of the Moto G at $179 off-contract in Brazil and areas of Europe this week, expanding to other regions in the following weeks, with the 16GB version priced at $199. Customers in the United States will gain the Moto G in January.
