Samsung on Friday released a software update for the Galaxy Gear Manager app on smartphones compatible with its smartwatch
. The update allows the Gear to receive full notifications from non-Samsung apps, addressing a major complaint that appeared in many reviews of the device
. The Gear Manager update follows shortly after Samsung issued a firmware update for the smartwatch itself, which improved stability and interoperation with a number of other Samsung smartphones.
With the new update, the Galaxy Gear will be able to display full notification data from Google Now, Facebook, Gmail, Google+, and Hangouts, as well as those Samsung apps with which the Gear was already compatible. Other apps, such as WhatsApp, will also display notifications on the Gear now.
Gear owners can get the new app by opening the Gear Manager app on their compatible devices. The app will automatically note that an update is available and take the user to the Samsung App Store.
