Valve Software treated customers of its Steam game store to an unexpected holiday gift, by making Left 4 Dead 2 free to play. The team-based first-person-shooter for PC and Mac, which sees a group of survivors attempt to survive a zombie apocalypse, is free to claim through the online store until 10am PST on December 26th, according to PC Gamer, after which it will revert to its usual price.

Altek launches Cubic 'Lens Camera' in Taiwan

Altek has produced its own take on the Sony "lens camera" by launching the Cubic in Taiwan. Connecting over Wi-Fi to a smartphone or tablet, the Cubic is said by Digitimes to offer a 13-megapixel ½.3-inch CMOS sensor, and a 3x optical zoom, inside a 52.5x45x26mm (2x1.8x1-inch) casing and weighing just 65g (2.3 ounces). The Cubic is on sale for NT$2,980 ($100), though it is unlikely to go on sale in the United States.
