is testing a possible new price plan for customers that do not require a HD stream. The new tier spotted by Adweek
offers the user a single stream at standard definition for $6.99 per month, $1 cheaper than the normal two-stream standard and HD version typically offered by the service. Netflix has since confirmed its tests, advising "Not all people will see this option and it may not be something we ever offer generally."
ABC to restrict next-day show streaming to authenticated cable subscribers
Broadcaster ABC will be requiring viewers to authenticate their cable account details with a service in order to watch shows over the Internet sooner rather than later. The change, set to take place on January 6th according to GigaOM
, will force of its Watch ABC
app, the ABC website, and Hulu to log in for next-day show access, though it will still allow non-subscribers of cable services to view shows eight days after their initial air date. This is not the first time a broadcaster has made such a move, with Fox doing the same thing
to its online viewers in 2011.
