Just two months after launch, and with no fanfare, Microsoft is shipping its recently-refreshed
Surface Pro 2 tablet with a faster processor. The full Windows 8 tablet now includes the Intel i5-4300u processor running at 1.9GHz, versus the i5 4200u that the tablet was revised with two months ago, running at 1.6Ghz.
No other revisions to the tablet are apparent. The two processors are similar enough, that nothing had to be done to the tablet to accommodate the change. As the processors are not socketed, there is no user upgrade path for owners of the older tablet to upgrade to the faster model.
A Microsoft spokesperson noted the change in an email to The Verge
saying "Microsoft routinely makes small changes to internal components over the lifetime of a product, based on numerous factors including supply chain partnerships, availability, and value for our customers. With any change to hardware or software, we work to ensure that the product experience remains excellent."
