App.net launches new crowdfunding service Backer
Social platform App.net has announced its launch of a new crowdfunding service called Backer
, allowing software creators to raise funds for future projects. Intended to facilitate a company's need to test what is desired by users in a hypothetical software feature, Backer provides the ability to pitch an idea to the public and ask for monetary commitment based on functionality, prior to development. This is based on App.net's perspective
that this method is more effective than conducting a poll or other informal research, due to the high likelihood of a falsely positive result. Applications for crowdfunding on Backer are now open
